Think of me as Batman, minus the cape, the gadgets (and maybe 30kg)…
A man wearing a Batman T-shirt, adorned with various gadgets, tools and a utility belt.
Recently, I celebrated 30 years in the workforce, a journey that's spanned industries from F&B and retail to the military, higher education, and now, the world of coaching.
Starting in coaching, I admittedly worried about my lack of "traditional" experience. I had lunch with Brian Liu, PBM who pointed out, every skill I've acquired is a tool in my belt. Coaching might be my newest addition, but it's just one piece of a diverse arsenal that makes me a unique and effective coach.
Think of me as Batman, minus the cape, the gadgets (and maybe 30kg):
- 1 year in F&B: Taught me the art of relentless service and adaptability. ☕️
- 4 years in Retail: Honed my communication and sales skills, helping me connect with clients on a deeper level. 🛍 ️
- 7 years in the Military: Instilled in me discipline, resilience, and leadership, qualities that empower my clients to overcome challenges. 😎
- 9 years in Higher Education: Provided me with a deep understanding of learning and development, allowing me to tailor my coaching to individual needs. 🏫
- 26 years in the Arts & Entertainment: Fueled my passion for creativity and self-expression, which I bring to every coaching session. 🎭
The Takeaway:
My path may not be conventional, but it's shaped me into the coach I am today. Each experience has added a unique layer of expertise and perspective, making me a well-equipped guide for your own journey.
Here's the challenge for you:
📝 Inventory your experiences: From first jobs to hobbies, list everything you've done.
🔎 Identify the skills: What did you learn from each experience? Communication? Leadership? Problem-solving?
🛠 Craft your tools: How do these skills translate into your current role (or dream role)?
🔩 Sharpen your belt: Highlight specific examples where you've used these skills to achieve results.
Remember, your path is unique, and your experiences are valuable tools. Embrace them, own them, and whip out the right tool for the job!
